Having rock and roll marriage is about learning to duck the rocks that get thrown at it (and they will come!) and fearlessly rolling with the punches. Having a great marriage is hard, it’s so not easy. It takes time, patience, nurturing, and a desire to empower your mate to be the be the best they can be. There is no room for woe is me or putting yourself first if you want it to be good.
There is a practiced leadership style known as Servant Leadership. The same principles of Servant Leadership can be applied to your marriage, or any relationship for that matter, including the relationship you have with your kids.
I know, I know….. the term “servant” makes some cringe, but it’s about modeling the behavior you wish to receive. The term servant has gotten a bad rap. A servant relationship is built on christian principles of healing, empowerment, empathy, listening, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, and stewardship. Once you learn to apply these principles to your marriage, it will rock and roll through any bad music.
If your marriage is not providing the fulfillment you desire maybe it’s time to apply the principles of a servant leader to your marriage. It won’t happen over night, and it won’t happen for some no matter how much you serve. That then becomes a servant burnout issue and requires professional help. I encourage you to try it, the rewards to be gained are amazing!
